A medical center for disabled people in Avépozo

The African Organization for the Development of Handicapped Persons Centers (OADCPH), a medical center in Avépozo was inaugurated on Monday by the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Prof. Moustafa Mijiyawa, in the presence of the partners and representatives of several organizations and for disabled or physical people.

Worth over CFAF 74 million, the headquarters is a sub-regional structure bringing together West and Central Africa. It is co-financed by the Japanese cooperation of the Red Cross Equipments (Switzerland). It is equipped with a large warehouse for storing and orthopedic products with a capacity of 60 tonnes, which will allow greater availability of consumables (raw materials, wheelchairs, machine tools, etc.) thus reducing service times. .

The house of OADCPH is to promote the right to access to quality and low-cost rehabilitation care for a greater number of people with disabilities in Africa and in a sustainable manner.

The OADCPH, through its purchasing association, supplies consumables, raw materials and equipment to more than 80 fitting and / or rehabilitation centers across 27 African countries. It aims to support and strengthen the capacities of its member structures (support-advice-monitoring-evaluation). It allows the organization of continuing training for rehabilitation professionals.

To this end, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Prof. Moustafa Mijiyawa welcomed the contribution of the partners for the construction of this headquarters for the supply and distribution of materials to alleviate human suffering.

Mr. Claude TARDIF, head of the physical rehabilitation program for the health unit in Geneva and Jean Daniel BROILLET, director general of the Red Cross Equipments, were delighted with the very important step that Togo has just taken to house the headquarters of this NGO

For the representative of OADCPH in Togo, Ms. Akoua Pinda-Bowessidjaou, director of CNAO Lomé, this institution in Togo “is for us a great sign of consideration and a great challenge to carry out the mission that we have assigned ourselves” .

The Executive Director of the OADCPH, Mr. Masse NIANG, pointed out that the added value of the OADCPH is the support of rehabilitation professionals by setting up a system of continuous training, in partnership with the ‘ENAM-Lomé. So to achieve sustainable development, the development of human resources occupies the most important part.

This regional headquarters was the subject of a partnership agreement with the Ministry of Health and a program agreement in 2012. The latter, renewed for a period of 3 years in July 2015, is preparing the establishment agreement.

Articles 5 and 6 grant this institution an exemption on the payment of the entry tax on capital goods as well as on equipment and materials directly falling within the execution of its program.

A visit to the premises and the equipment by the minister and the hosts brought to an end the inauguration ceremony of this medical center.
